The Scholarships are awarded annually to a child, legally adopted child or dependant currently living with a registered Class A member in good standing with BALMA and ILWU Local 10, as of the application deadline. The scholarship is to help them attend the University, College, or Trade School of their choice. The awarding body is the Bay Area Longshoremen’s Memorial Association Officers and Trustees. The selection criteria is based on academic potential, intent, and financial need.

BALMA gives out 40-50 scholarships annually. The scholarships amounts range from $250, $500 and $1,000. The scholarships available are:

2. Jeffress Memorial Scholarship
3. Harry Bridges Memorial Scholarship
4. William “Bill” Chester Memorial Scholarship
5. Frank Cresci Scholarship
6. Ralph Rooker Scholarship
7. Joe Mosley Scholarship
